John Happel (b. 1982) is a photographer and visual journalist born and currently based in Massachusetts.

John grew up in Scituate, Massachusetts and later graduated from the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University in 2005.  Afterward, he worked as a carpenter for eight years in the northeast. He started taking pictures at age 30, and entered the graduate program for photojournalism at the University of Missouri shortly thereafter. 

John is currently working on his professional master's project in his native Massachusetts while accepting commissions of all kinds.  

Most recently, John interned as a staff photographer for the Valley News in West Lebanon, N.H. Previously, he held internships with the Christian Science Monitor and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. His work has received multiple recognitions from the College Photographer of the Year competition and has been supported by the New England Newspaper & Press Association and the Missouri Press Awards.
